Seader Forge
My name is Matt Seader, owner and operator of Seader Forge. I utilize both modern and traditional methods to create heirloom quality tools and goods for use in the shop, home, and field. My 350 sq ft workshop space is in my 100 year old barn, located on our family land outside of Athens, GA. I am dedicated to bringing my customers unique, quality products, made by hand, to last a lifetime and more.
I draw my influences from many sources - nature, history, science - the world in which we live. My personal background is in plant science, having worked in the horticulture field for over 20 years. My family has ties to the steel industry - my grandfather was a Pennsylvania ironworker in the 1940s-70s. My father worked in the steel mills of PA during the 1970s. My brother is a highly skilled welder, fabricator, and knifemaker here in GA.
I forge all of my tools alone, by hand, one at a time, with a hammer, anvil, and various hand tools.
I utilize high quality materials for all my products. Both new and recycled/upcycled materials are incorporated into my work, maintaining the highest standards while providing new opportunities to old materials. All efforts are made to ensure that my materials are ethically and environmentally sound.
