Rounding hammer forged from 1045 steel. Available in a variety of fullering styles and head weights, ranging from 2lb - 3lb. Hung on fire cured and linseed oil soaked 14" hickory handles.
Rounding hammers are designed to be a double faced hammer, each face performing a different function for the smith. The “round” face has a convex grind, with a radius that helps move metal aggressively. The “flat” face has a very slight radius with relieved edges, and is used for general forging, planishing. The edges of both faces can be used in a similar fashion as one would use a cross peen or straight peen hammer.
Please see photos for examples of the “normal” versus the “polished” fuller style. The regular fuller style is as-forged, with a forged finish. The “polished” style is forged, then ground and polished, to provide a unique look. Both styles will function the exact same.
